LOSE IT
February 18, 2012
Lose It is a great app for both Droid and IPhone/Pod/Pad. While its designers have created a calorie counter/weight loss program, I see Lose It as an easy way my patients can “define” what they are doing so that they can they start to “refine” their health habits.
While Lose It will help you lose weight by tracking your caloric intake, it will also help you track your nutritional intake, including fats (saturated and total), carbs, protein, salt, sugar, and fiber. In addition to nutritional intake, Lose It will track your activity level and calculate calories expended on exercise.
I think of Lose It as a full-time nutritionist in my pocket. I call her Betsy (named after the world’s greatest weight loss consultant). I used to call Betsy on a regular basis; now I access nutritional information on my smart phone. Several weeks ago, the local grocer had wild-caught large shrimp on sale for a great price. I pulled Betsy out of my pocket and asked her how many shrimp I could have for dinner. The answer amazed me!
Shrimp are very low in calories, about 5 – 10 calories each. In the old days, I was a glutton, eating volumes of food. As part of my own refinement, I have learned to limit my calories, as well as balance my nutritional intake. Lose It does its job nicely. While informing me that I can eat a lot of shrimp, it reminds me that shrimp are high in cholesterol. I buy 7 large shrimp and enjoyed a healthy dinner.
Diets and Other Unnatural Acts helps you develop a balanced, “Wellthy” lifestyle. Lose It assists you in reaching your goal.
