January should be labeled “Respiratory Month.” Many of the patients I see during January are suffering from upper respiratory tract infections, bronchitis, exacerbations (worsening) of asthma and pneumonia. I’ve written about each of these illnesses before.
There are screening tests for many disorders. Today, I want to highlight two.
The COPD Population Screener (COPD-PS) is one of many that screen for COPD. Just click on the highlighted name and take the quiz! You may surprise yourself! By some estimates, fifty percent of patients suffering with COPD go undiagnosed! If your total score is five or more, please see your doc.
The Asthma Control Test is another. It’s easy to take and administer to your loved ones. There’s a simplified pediatric version as well. Just as in COPD, asthma often goes undiagnosed.
In the weeks to come I’ll post other simple ways to screen yourself for hidden illness. Early diagnosis and treatment can be lifesaving.
