    He was removed to hospital, where he died a month later. A letter wrongly dated Tuesday, 8 June, but obviously written, Andrei Rimsky-Korsakof points out, on Tuesday 8 July (the post- mark bears the date 12 July), mentions the introduction to (Edipus, work on a piano sonata, and also matters unconnected with music. He also received a state pension, which allowed him more time to compose because he no longer had to teach privately. FTP name this baroque composer, nicknamed "The Red Priest," best known for a work composed of Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter sections.

    His skills as a pianist made him much in demand by fellow-cadets; for them he would play dances interspersed with his own improvisations.
