    The question may be, then, how can teachers encourage students to focus more frequently on grammatical form? That fact alone makes it a candidate in this list. Understanding spoken language requires an adequate vocabulary, which is a critical component of the semantics of a language. People will understand you more easily because you are speaking in the way they expect to hear. The Doctrine of Correctness in English Usage, 1700-1800.
