Nothing improves my mood more than a visit from Mr. Wonderful. You remember Mr. Wonderful. He’s the guy who quit smoking many years ago and keeps track of the money he would have wasted on cigarettes over those years. It has now been 5,247 days since he last took a drag on a cancer stick and he has saved both his life and $73,806.60! WOW!
Remarkable, isn’t it? Even more remarkable is the document he brought in at his last visit. The title, “2014/2015Goals/Concerns,” sums it up nicely. Mr. Wonderful has outlined not only what he needs to do in the coming year but what he is striving to achieve, what his accomplishments in the past year were, what his failures were and what he is currently doing to reach his lofty goals. I wish all of my patients would publish a State of the Union address yearly as does Mr. Wonderful.
I really should change his name to Doctor Feelgood as a visit from this patient always leaves me feeling uplifted. Mr. Wonderful closes his document with a list of his favorite quotes. This year, number one on the list is, “Failure is success, if we learn from it.” I think I’ll adopt that one. The other one I really like is, “Success comes before work only in the dictionary.”
What are your goals and concerns? The first step to reaching your goals and addressing your concerns is to write them down. The second step is to methodically work at reaching/correcting them!
Thanks again, Mr. Wonderful!
